About
What StarStash is
StarStash is still an MVP, being shaped and built in the open. It already works as a local-first bookmarking tool — a drop-in upgrade to your default bookmark manager for capturing collections of things you gather while doing research, learning a new codebase, or going deep on a topic you care about.
No account is required to start. Every bookmark saves straight to a local database on your device — open the extension and save; that's the whole setup. You can import or export your data any time.
Links can be saved into a collection — a work task, a research thread — and StarStash captures the context around them, so what you find later is more than just a URL. Search runs on a local index, so it's fast; it already matches keywords, tags, and collections, with browsing history and full local search on the way.
Create a free account whenever you want cloud backups and the ability to restore your data on a new device. Sign up for the open beta to try cross-device sync and the other features rolling out as we build them. These are all optional — none of it is required to get the full value of a better bookmark manager.
StarStash works best paired with the Chrome extension, which adds quick ways to save your current tab, build a collection as you browse, or save your entire window as a collection at once. Extensions for Firefox, Safari, and Edge are coming soon.
